With a combined budget of $7.6MM, the Chamber is comprised of a 501(c)6 organization and the Chattanooga Chamber Foundation, a 501(c)3 affiliate organization. President & Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) reports to the Chair of the 80+-member Board of Directors (10-member Executive Committee) and to the Chair of the 9-member Foundation Board; the CEO serves on both Boards. CEO manages 7 direct reports and total staff of 40+ employees. This executive will work collaboratively with City of Chattanooga and Hamilton County governmental officials and agencies, as well as other nonprofit groups having strategic affiliations with the Chamber. The CEO must be a proven, results-oriented leader who marshals, motivates and coordinates the Chamber’s volunteer leaders and staff in championing local business interests, growing the regional economy and identifying new program opportunities that address issues of importance in Chattanooga and surrounding communities.
Outstanding opportunity for a chamber of commerce, economic development, association, nonprofit or private sector executive to lead and grow a successful Chamber organization in an attractive and competitive region of Tennessee with tremendous potential. The CEO will have the benefit of working with a highly committed and influential Board of Directors and community partners who are enthusiastic about Chattanooga, its potential, and growing stature and visibility on a national scale. The Chamber CEO is a highly visible leadership position and, as such, the new CEO will have significant influence on the continued growth and development of the area. The new CEO can count on an experienced and dedicated staff and enthusiastic volunteer leadership with a “get it done” attitude to support them in efforts to elevate the regional community to new levels of success.
Ideal candidate must have a proven track record of success in a senior leadership role in a for-profit, nonprofit or public sector environment. This executive must have experience with substantial fundraising, working with volunteer boards and volunteer-driven initiatives, a history of successful collaboration and alliance building, and a demonstrated track-record of producing results against goals.
A Bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree in business, law or related field is considered a plus. If a candidate’s professional experience includes chamber, economic development or association leadership background, then a graduate of the U.S. Chamber’s Institute for Organization Management, Certified Chamber Executive, Certified Economic Developer or Certified Association Executive designation is desirable.
