The Township of Malahide is a progressive rural/urban municipality, located in Elgin County minutes away from the cities of St. Thomas and London, and stretching to the shores of Lake Erie. The Township is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to assume the responsibilities of the position of “Director of Development Services”. This position will be shared with the Municipality of Bayham in accordance with and subject to a Memorandum of Understanding.
The successful candidate will be a member of the Township of Malahide’s Senior Leadership Team and manage the Development Services to meet the ever-changing needs of the two growing municipalities. The incumbent will provide strategic vision, leadership and expert guidance in land-use planning, development, and building (this position oversees the position of Chief Building Official, which is also being shared between the two municipalities), while ensuring short and long-term plans are in place to maintain existing development and to accommodate growth.
The preferred candidate will have:
A University degree in Planning, Economic Development, Business Administration Public Administration, Engineering or related discipline.
Membership in good standing with the Canadian Institute of Planners, Ontario Professional Planners Institute, Economic Development Council of Ontario, or a combination thereof.
Significant and demonstrated experience in a senior municipal officer capacity with five (5) years of senior management experience
Extensive knowledge of land-use principles in addition to knowledge of various applicable statutes, regulations, policy statements, processes, by-laws and best practices, particularly the Planning Act.
Knowledge of Building Code Act and related regulations.
Working knowledge of the Municipal Act, Ontario Health and Safety Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, the Provincial Offenses Act, and all applicable Acts and Regulations.
Strong leadership and human relations skills in order to direct, develop, motivate, and support Staff in developing and achieving goals and objectives and able to participate as an effective team member within the Development Services Department and both municipal organizations.
