The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the University at Albany, SUNY is seeking applicants for an Assistant Director of Outreach and Strategic Communications in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
The Assistant Director of Outreach and Strategic Communications is responsible for development and implementation of media campaigns related to university strategies and initiatives, building and sustaining the recruitment pipeline for CEAS and affiliated departments, and creating communication strategies for general audiences as well as for technical audiences. The incumbent will highlight the strengths and achievements of The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS) and publicize these achievements through outreach activities designed to build the College's reputation, promote, recruit, and effectively fulfill its mission. The Assistant Director of Outreach and Strategic Communications will play a lead role in executing this charge, including serving as liaison with outside groups and industry partners to facilitate collaborations, and promote knowledge and awareness of the College.
The Assistant Director of Outreach and Strategic Communications will be a professional with strong communication and writing skills. The incumbent will report to a senior manager in the Office of Communications and Marketing, the Assistant Dean in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and work in close collaboration with them as well as department Chairs, Administrative Managers, and CEAS faculty to develop and implement robust outreach and communications plans, and effectively communicate achievements to current and prospective students and appropriate audiences. In addition, the incumbent will assist with administrative tasks as needed.
Responsibilities:
Build the recruitment pipeline for CEAS and affiliated departments by coordinating and participating in faculty, student and staff outreach to regional Universities through regular engagement events, including talks, posters and networking.
Connect with industry leaders to establish and maintain Capstone partnerships, research partnerships and internship and career opportunities.
Coordinate, attend and actively participate in activities sponsored and/or organized by the College.
Coordinate the College’s involvement, attend and actively participate in University events representing the College and its programs including but not inclusive to Open House, Munch with the Majors, Preview Days, and Transfer Days.
Identify promotional activities to increase enrollment at the UG and graduate levels and both domestically and internationally.
Create and promote an alumni network including a pipeline to current students and the Director of Development.
Employ current means of outreach using various communication strategies including print, digital and social media outlets.
Work with the Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM) to create communication strategies to promote the College and its programs.
Network with academic and industry representatives to identify areas for promotion.
Work with OCM to develop story ideas and assist in the drafting of press releases.
Collect and assemble information, write and produce the College’s Annual Report.
Manage CEAS social media accounts.
Work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize and complete assignments within established deadlines.
Work outside regular business hours including evenings and weekends as needed to attend College and University events.
The incumbent will…
primarily work with the CEAS Dean’s Office, and all CEAS academic departments. Functional relationships will exist between the employee and other University offices, such as Public Engagement, Office of Community and Economic Development, UG Admissions, Graduate Admissions, and others as needed.
regularly coordinate with OCM for best practices, content, style and messaging as it relates to communications and marketing.

Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Journalism, Public Communications, or other relevant area, plus at least 2-4 years of relevant experience. Strong verbal and written skills including editorial experience necessary as is an understanding of web publishing and the technical concepts involved in implementing web publishing solutions and social media campaigns. Campaign email system experience. Must be able to work with diverse populations and support an inclusive work environment.
Preferred:
MS degree in Marketing, Journalism, Public Communications, or other relevant area. Experience in higher education. Background in STEM field.
