The Planning, Real Estate and Economic Development (PRED) department is responsible for the planning and delivery of growth activities for the City of Ottawa, including long range land use planning, the City’s long-term transportation plan, the prioritization of transportation investments, development approvals, management and long-term strategies for the City’s real estate portfolio, delivering on major city-building projects, and identifying opportunities to foster economic prosperity.
Reporting to the City Manager, the General Manager, Planning, Real Estate and Economic Development (General Manager) is accountable for providing vision, leadership, and strategic direction to PRED. Leading and developing a team of approximately 646 staff, the General Manager, plans, directs, and improves the delivery of PRED Services, ensuring business strategies, policies, programs, services, and operations align with the vision and priorities of the corporation and Council, and reflect sensitivity to customer/client needs and political issues. The GM facilitates the development and implementation of cross-departmental synergies and corporate-wide organizational effectiveness, strategies, and policies in collaboration with other members of the Senior Leadership Team, the City Manager and City Council. Representing the City to the public, media, and external stakeholders is a key responsibility all while developing harmonious and productive relationships.
As the ideal candidate you bring a minimum of 10 years of experience in land use planning, engineering, real estate and/or economic development gained in complex multistakeholder organizations, including a minimum of 5 years managing human resources, external contract resources, operating and capital budgets. You have an exceptional ability to operationalize strategic priorities and have demonstrated success in integrating services and leading large complex projects. Politically astute and consultative, you have a reputation as a facilitator of growth and have demonstrated integrity in your actions. A collaborative team member and relationship builder, you are skilled at clearly communicating and leading others to achieve goals. Given your experience in planning, real estate and economic development leadership, service planning, project management, financial and human resource management, you’re well-positioned to take on this integral role with the City of Ottawa.
