Essential Functions
Job Summary
Function:
Provide management of the Division I Softball program.
Scope:
Responsible for all aspects of a successful NCAA Division I Softball program including hiring staff, recruiting quality student-athletes, on-field coaching, representing the University with a broad range of internal and external constituencies.
Duties
Typical:
Commitment to overseeing a softball program that develops champions in the classroom, in competition and in life.
Plan, organize and conduct team and individual practices and training.
Hire, train, supervise and evaluate assistant coaches and support staff.
Develop and implement a plan to recruit quality student-athletes.
Set and communicate team goals and expectations.
Provide leadership in supporting the academic, personal and physical welfare of student-athletes.
Represent the University in the promotion of UTSA in general and softball specifically with a broad range of internal and external constituents.
Develop annual competition schedule with approval of Athletics Director and/or designee.
Be knowledgeable of and adhere to all University, Conference and NCAA rules.
Actively promote compliance of all University, Conference and NCAA rules.
Monitor satisfactory academic progress of student-athletes.
Annually develop and oversee sport operating budget.
Act with integrity at all times.
Work with Athletics Development office to actively fundraise in support of operations.
Ensure completion of all administrative functions of the softball program .
Oversee all softball summer camps.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Periodic:
Represent UTSA at American Athletic Conference and national meetings.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
Five years of experience as a Softball Coach. Demonstrated success as head or assistant coach
Professional playing experience can replace up to two years of coaching experience
Knowledge of technical and strategic qualities in the sport of Softball
Knowledge and compliance with all NCAA, State of Texas, UTSA and American Athletic Conference rules and regulations
Demonstrated excellent organizational, written, and verbal communications skills
Ability to exercise independent judgment, discretion, and flexibility
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies
Commitment to the highest ethical standards
Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population
Knowledge of personal computers, Microsoft Office, and standard office equipment
Driver's License History Check
Criminal Background Check (CBC)
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited university
Prior head coaching experience
Experience as a coach with a NCAA Division I program
Working Conditions
Physical activity in the sport of softball, weekend and evening hours and required travel.
This position will be primarily located:
On Campus: Primary work location will be on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
