This position is eligible for a hybrid work model. When attending an event or meeting in person, your primary office location will be based out of City Hall located at 426 Brant Street, Burlington, ON. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands.
This position is a member of the Community Planning Department management team whose purpose is to achieve the City’s land use and growth objectives. The position oversees the Planning Implementation section with teams responsible for: the processing of all planning implementation development applications (i.e. site plans, condominiums, sign variances, minor variances, consents, zoning clearance, pre-building approvals? Niagara Escarpment permits, etc.)? department business services? department records and data management? Committee of Adjustment? and, integrated development services delivery. It also has a broader reach across the Corporation by ensuring alignment and coordination with other internal departments and external agencies (i.e. Region of Halton, Conservation Halton, MTO, Burlington Hydro, Economic Development) for continuous improvement of business processes, staff development, and customer success. This position assists the Director by providing strategic leadership in coordinating the teams across the Community Planning department and assumes the duties of the Director of Community Planning during absences or as directed.
The Manager of Planning Implementation is responsible to:
· Manage the day-to-day development related activities of the Planning Implementation section.
· Play a key role in building, maintaining, communicating, and championing a positive departmental culture and the City’s corporate values.
· Plan and implement strategies to promote an excellent customer experience for users of the department’s services
· Manage Community Planning department business services including oversight on budget matters, records, and data management.
· Provide advice and information to staff, the public, development industry, council and external agencies on relevant planning matters.
A four (4) year University Degree in Urban Planning or related field of study. Hold a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) designation and membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP). Five (5) years in progressively more responsible planning positions and experience with Urban Design (site planning, architecture, or landscape architecture or urban design). Extensive knowledge of the policies, rules, legislation, standards and regulations governing community planning activities. Thorough knowledge of best management practices and principles, as well as continuous improvement methodologies as applied to community planning. Strong strategic skills, customer focused and can foster an environment of communication and collaboration. This position may require occasional travel between sites and/or City facilities.
Salary $117,121 - $146,401 (Grade 13 – Under Review)
