The Palm Beach County, FL, Board of County Commissioners (PBC BCC) is excited to invite applications for Assistant County Administrator. In this high-profile role, you will assist the County Administrator in the management of County departments, agencies, special offices and programs. Serves as a liaison to departments to ensure assigned objectives, goals and key performance indicators are being met. Confers with representatives of other jurisdictions, developers, private industry, civic and community groups on matters of interest pertaining to assigned departments or functions on behalf of the County Administrator. Reviews departmental budget requests and provides advice, assistance, and recommends proposed budgets to the County Administrator. Conducts fact?finding studies, observes operations, and determines changes needed to departmental policies or procedures. Initiates and carries through to completion special programs and projects as directed by the County Administrator. Attends Board of County Commissioners meetings, providing administrative support, researching issues, preparing reports and presenting proposals for Board approval. Actively participates in all activations of the emergency operations center.
The successful candidate should also have considerable knowledge of and experience in budget management, housing and economic development, public/private partnerships, strategic planning, capital improvements, community relations, project management, human resources and labor relations.
Palm Beach County is Florida’s third largest county by population, estimated at over 1.5 million residents. We are bordered on the east by the Atlantic Ocean, on the west by Lake Okeechobee and have 47 miles of shoreline. There are 39 municipalities within the County. Major industries include tourism, agriculture, construction, wealth management, bio life science and other emerging industries. The lifestyles of residents range from urban to rural, with the more densely populated areas in the east. We enjoy wide-ranging sports, fitness, environmental, and cultural activities, as well as restful places for solitude. County-owned amenities include beaches, golf courses, water parks, dog parks, civic centers, equestrian parks, amphitheaters, a marina, parks, walking/hiking trails, a museum, two major league baseball facilities, and a wide variety of other recreational and educational facilities.
Familiarity with Florida's Sunshine/Open Records laws is beneficial. Work is reviewed by the County Administrator through conferences, reports and observation of results achieved.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Public/Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or related; minimum of seven (7) years progressively responsible managerial experience; or the equivalent combination of experience and education.
PREFERENCE FOR: Government management work experience.
