Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Economic Development and Policy, the Planner, Policy is responsible for the development of strategic policies, associated research, compilation and maintenance of statistical data, program delivery, and liaison duties related to land use and related strategic priorities. The incumbent will respond to and manage internal and external policy inquiries and complete special studies and associated reports. This role will supervise consultants, provide advice to departmental staff and external contacts regarding policy implications related to the Town. The Planner, Policy will also coordinate related messaging, marketing and/or other project related communication, as required.
Responsibilities
Conduct complex research and prepare reports on a wide range of areas including land use policy, growth forecasting, environmental policy, economic data, and other growth management related planning matters.
Provide professional and technical support to the corporation on land use policy development processes and techniques.
Leads the development, review, and updates of strategic policies and initiatives including Green Development Standards, Parkland Dedication, Cash-in-Lieu, and Servicing Allocation.
Undertake special projects related to the development of new policies and/or standards, as directed by Council or initiated within the Planning and Development Services Department.
Attends inter-departmental meetings, public hearings, open houses, and Council Committee meetings to provide planning input as required.
Respond to inquiries from and/or confer with internal and external inquiries regarding a broad range of land use policy and growth management related matters.
Perform other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications
University degree in a Planning related discipline along with completion of or working towards the completion of a professional designation in MCIP and RPP.
One (1) to three (3) years of demonstrated experience in a municipal or professional consulting environment with emphasis on research and analysis, project management, economic development, sustainable development, and planning policy development.
Excellent analytical, research, report writing, problem solving, organizational, communication and supervisory skills.
Demonstrated project management skills to lead a project or work group, organize numerous tasks, set priorities and meet deadlines.
Ability to deal courteously and effectively with all levels of staff, government, the general public, developers, builders, rate-payer groups, etc.
Ability to think and act strategically in a political and community serviced environment and to foster and contribute to a positive, productive work environment.
Computer literacy utilizing MS Office applications in a Windows environment, with strong skills in Excel, familiar with ArcGIS or other statistical/mapping tools.
Valid Class “G” Driver's License in good standing and reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.
Availability to attend evening meetings as required.
