Role Purpose
The System Director promotes the professional practice and clinical education of nursing and non-RN clinical staff across BJC. Collaborates with system and HSO leaders to align standards and expectations around clinical practice planning, education, implementation and alignment with physician and other partners. Develops and implements goals and objectives for general and targeted educational, development and practice initiatives align with relevant evidence, research, best practice and regulatory/accreditation/certification requirements. Provides direction to HSO program leaders in the area of clinical education, professional practice, practice excellence (Magnet), professional development programs and other related initiatives. Evaluates and recommends improvement of professional practice systems (standards, policies, procedures, documentation, staff orientation, training, e-learning, and skills/competency testing) to enhance patient care delivery. Provides direction through matrixed reporting with HSO leaders for operational aspects of nursing education and professional practice activities. Assesses HSO management of professional practice and clinical education programs and establishes goals and expectations for continuous learning and improvement based on BJCs culture and values.
Responsibilities
Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: onboarding and hiring, training, workload management & performance evaluations, conducting professional development plans as needed. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
Provides direction and HSO oversight in development of clinical rotations for students, onboarding new graduate RNs and others clinical roles, new nursing orientation, continuing education, competencies and other targeted educational initiatives, such as training for clinical programs (Service Lines) to support safe, high quality, customer-centric care.
Provides direction and oversees development, implementation, and evaluation of professional practice and professional development programs across the System. Facilitates integration of professional development into nursing competencies to hardwire culture of excellence and enhance customer experience. Oversees alignment and integration where possible of nursing excellence programs (e.g., Magnet).
Leads, with HSO co-chairs, the Professional Development Program to design and implement career ladders and professional pathways for nurses and other non-RN clinical professionals. Leads and/or participates in committees related to education and evidence-based practice to advance quality of care in alignment with organization strategic plan. Collaborates with Academic Partners and coordinates undergraduate and graduate student nurse clinical rotations.
Provides direction into the design of measurements and tools to evaluate educational initiatives and impact on clinical outcomes and staff experience. Maintains knowledge of nursing/clinical trends and educational techniques and program evaluation methods consistent with ANPD Scope and Standards. Establish opportunities to acquire input and assess educational needs from stakeholders across areas supported by Nursing Education Department. (e.g., Shared Governance Committees, System Collaborative Practice Council, Quality Council, CNOC and other, Leadership Councils).
Applies industry expertise and to drive financial and operational performance within the organization. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
