Description of Work:
The Community and Regional Planning program in the College of Architecture at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) seeks applicants for a full‐time, nine‐month, tenure-track assistant professor beginning in August 2023. This assistant professor position requires a Ph.D. degree in Planning or a related discipline by the time of appointment. This faculty member must be able to teach core courses and elective courses in the community and regional planning field. The successful candidate should have expertise in one or more of the research areas, including urban design, land use and physical planning, economic development, housing policies, real estate development, infrastructure planning, financial policies, social and equity planning, zoning and planning implementation. This faculty member should have demonstrated success working effectively with diverse communities and experience developing and implementing programs, services, and/or courses that are designed to meet the needs of the increasingly diverse university community.
The Community and Regional Planning program is the only nationally accredited planning program in Nebraska. The program is committed to preparing students for a wide range of professional positions in the diverse and dynamic field of planning. Our program continues to build and expand multi-disciplinary, academic connections within the University and externally create research, planning, and internship opportunities with nonprofit organizations and federal, state, and local governments. The Community and Regional Planning program offers the Master of Community and Regional Planning degree and Urban Design Graduate Certificate. The program provides an accelerated graduate program with Environmental Studies and dual degree programs with Architecture, Civil Engineering, Juris Doctor, and Public Health. Minimum Required Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Planning or a related discipline from a university with a PAB-accredited planning program, by the time of appointment.
Qualified to teach the core planning courses in the Master of Community and Regional Planning's core curriculum.
Demonstrated research expertise in one or more of the following areas: urban design, land use and physical planning, economic development, housing policies, real estate development, infrastructure planning, financial policies, social and equity planning, andzoning/plan implementation.
Demonstrated ability to effectively promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, research, and services.
Demonstrated excellence or working experiences in teaching for diverse student populations.
Demonstrated abilities in writing publications.
Demonstrated abilities in securing external funding.
AICP certification or demonstrated efforts to pursue the AICP certification.
Demonstrated ability and a desire to collaborate with faculty in the College of Architecture.
Demonstrated ability and a desire to collaborate with the centers and institutes in the University of Nebraska system (including campuses located in Omaha and Kearney), such as Rural Prosperity Nebraska; Nebraska Public Policy Center; Social and Behavioral Sciences Research Consortium; Robert B. Daugherty Water for Food Institute; Minority Health Disparities Initiative; and governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations, industrial partners, and professional organizations.
Demonstrated interest and a desire for applications in small/medium size urban settings and rural contexts.
Demonstrated success and experience in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the community and regional planning profession.
